Have you been feeling pressure to buy or sell?
It happens at all stages of life, from newly married couples to retirees.
You’ve heard stories of others like you that bought (or sold) a home.
Sometimes these stories come with little regretful comments like “we probably should have waited”and “I’m not sure why we moved, we were happy there.”
So when family and friends ask when you’ll upgrade or downsize your home, you feel pressured even if you’re not ready.
Your gut tells you it’s not the right time, but it’s what you’re ‘supposed to’ do at this stage of your life.
So, you start looking at homes available in your area.
You start noticing all the stuff you’ll have to box up.
You’re exhausted just thinking about all the work involved when it’s not even what you want right now.
This isn’t your fault!
Society puts a lot of pressure on us to do life a certain way.
You might be surprised to hear this from a realtor, but…
>>> Don’t move until you feel ready.
Here are some common scenarios where people feel like they SHOULD move:
Are you expecting a child? You might feel pressured to upgrade your home. Adding a new baby is already stressful enough. Give yourself some grace. Pause and think about whether or not you WANT to move or feel like you should because of outside pressure.
Newlyweds? You might feel like you should buy a home together as your first big decision as a married couple. Society has conditioned us to think buying a home is part of the ‘normal’ life path. You may want to rent in different neighbourhoods before you settle on where you want to live. It’s much easier to move when you’re renting. Buying a home before you’re ready can cause costly surprises later.
♂️ Recently retired? It’s a cultural stigma to think you need to downsize when you retire. If you can still climb up and down your stairs with ease (and don’t see that changing any time soon), you may want to stay put, especially if you love where you live.
Whatever your situation, it’s best to take a breath and ask yourself, ‘Do I WANT to move... OR am I feeling pressure (from family or society)?’
This unnecessary pressure is one of the reasons you won’t see me brag about my sales numbers.
My clients are not a dollar figure on my income reports.
They are real people with real feelings. They deserve the space to make the best decision for their families.
Are you feeling the pressure to move?
Reply and let me know why. There might be a solution you haven’t even considered yet.
